Job Title : Registered Nurse Profession : Nursing Specialty : Medical-Surgical / Telemetry / Pediatrics Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour Nights, Every Other Weekend, First to Float, Holidays as Needed Hours per Shift : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum 1 year of experience required License : Valid nursing license required Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have : Experience in MedSurg, Telemetry, and Pediatrics Description : This is a Medical-Surgical / Telemedicine / Pediatric nursing position. The facility does not have an ICU but may take patients with ICU acuity. RNs will not be asked to work outside their scope of practice. The unit has a maximum of 25 beds with a recent average census of 12-14 patients. Patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 during the day and 1 : 5-6 at night. If a patient is critical, ratios may be adjusted to 1 : 1 or 1 : 2. Common patient diagnoses include a variety of acute and chronic conditions from Pediatrics to Geriatrics. Patients may be admitted for respiratory issues, infectious diseases, gastrointestinal problems, alcohol intoxication / withdrawal, liver disease, acute kidney injury, diabetes, and rehabilitation needs. RNs are required to titrate drips and commonly manage insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, Heparin, Aminophylline, magnesium, potassium, albumin, and blood products. There is no charge nurse on each shift, but a house supervisor or coordinator is available. Nurse aides / patient care techs are present on this unit at a ratio of 1 : 12. RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry; no dedicated monitor techs are available. Shifts include 7 a.m., 7 p.m., and 7 p.m.-7 a.m., with rotating schedules and no guaranteed blocked scheduling. There is a minimum weekend requirement of 2 out of 6 weekends; additional weekends may be required if needed. Holidays may require work, but requests for time off will be considered if given in advance. Nurses may float to other departments as necessary, but will not be asked to work outside their area of expertise. Scrub color is flexible; any color is acceptable. Two days of unit-specific orientation are provided. Cancellation policy allows for shifts to be canceled as needed. Charting is completed using a Meditech system. This role is situated in an acute care setting.
