Summary

The Pharmacy Authorization Specialist must be able to perform at the highest level of pharmacy technician duties, including but not limited to, Prior Authorizations, clinic physician liaison relationships, medication adherence calls, and business development. The Pharmacy Authorization Specialist will ensure that all customer service needs are achieved in a professional manner in accordance with Federal, State, local standards, guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately inputs new referrals into the computer system and updates information in the computer system.
  • Communicates to the Authorization department the necessary information to obtain benefit information, authorization, reauthorization, and reimbursement by emailing and scanning pertinent medical information.
  • Addresses insurance issues that require alternate funding. Registers and / or enrolls patients with manufacturer reimbursement programs, as needed.
  • Follows-up on authorizations to ensure they are achieved prior to dispensing.
  • Coordinates with referrals source all necessary information needed to initiate services for new patient referrals.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High school diploma is required.

Credentials

Florida Board Registration and Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) Certification are required.
