License : Current nursing license required. Certifications : BLS & ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have : Traveler experience required unless the traveler has more than 24 months of cardiac experience. Required skills include : Cardiac Telemetry, PCU / DOU / Stepdown, sheath removal, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-MI care, pre / post cardiac catheterization management, management of cardiac drips (no titration and titration), chest tube management, external CPAP / BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management. Description : RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly turn into a cancel and DNR. Ratios vary per acuity : 1 : 4 for surgical step down and 1 : 5-6 for lower acuity. Weekend requirement is 4 shifts every 4 weeks, which is flexible. Contract staff may be assigned to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Candidates may float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities based on skill sets and census. Candidates must be comfortable floating with no restrictions or special requests. Patient populations include adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, aortic stenosis / regurgitation, mitral regurgitation / stenosis, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD, PAD, and venous stasis. Special procedures performed include CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, mitral clip, carotid endarterectomy, and various cardiac and thoracic surgeries. Special equipment utilized includes arterial lines, Doppler, EKG, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires. Documentation and communication systems include Pyxis and electronic health records. Candidates will work in a post cardiac surgery unit and must pass EKG testing prior to starting. Candidates are required to work 2 of 3 major holidays and must be able to fulfill weekend responsibilities.
