Job Title : Registered Nurse – Med-Surg / Telemetry Facility : MedStar Georgetown University Hospital – Washington, DC Start Date : 11 / 17 / 2025 Contract Length : 13 Weeks Shift : 3x12 Days (06 : 30–19 : 00) or Nights (18 : 30–07 : 00) Weekend Requirement : Every other weekend (6 weekend shifts per contract) Patient Ratio : 1 : 5 Float Requirement : Yes, within similar or lower acuity units Job Description : MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse to join its 16-bed General Medicine / Telemetry Unit (C6-1). This unit cares for adult and geriatric patients with complex, multisystem conditions requiring continuous pulse oximetry and telemetry monitoring. The RN will provide high-quality, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the MedStar mission of cura personalis —caring for the whole person. Key Responsibilities : Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and deliver safe, evidence-based patient care. Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage telemetry monitoring, and identify dysrhythmias. Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and manage central / PICC / peripheral lines. Care for patients with a wide range of medical diagnoses including respiratory, cardiac, renal, endocrine, neurological, and gastrointestinal conditions. Manage patients requiring oxygen therapy, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, and non-invasive ventilation. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, Pharmacy, Case Management, etc.) to ensure optimal outcomes. Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions. Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner EMR and follow hospital safety and infection control protocols. Participate in rapid response / code situations and demonstrate strong critical thinking in emergencies. Float to other Med-Surg / Telemetry units as needed based on staffing and patient acuity. Requirements : Licensure : Active DC RN License (Pending accepted with proof; must be active prior to start) Experience : Minimum 2 years Med-Surg / Telemetry RN experience Travel Experience : At least 1 prior travel assignment required Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (preferred) Charting System : Cerner (preferred) Unit & Patient Population : Unit : 16-bed Med-Surg / Telemetry (C6-1) Acuity : Moderate to high, adult and geriatric populations Common Diagnoses : Pneumonia, COPD, CHF, Sepsis, Stroke / TIA, Endocrine disorders, GI conditions, Kidney disease, and isolation cases (COVID-19, Flu, TB).
