About The Role This position manages the design of transmission generation tie lines for Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage, and stand-alone transmission line projects. The Principal Engineer develops, coordinates, and oversees transmission engineering design activities, reviews engineers’ drawings, solves design issues, and functions as department manager, establishing engineering standards. Key Responsibilities Manage the design of transmission line projects from conception through construction and commissioning. Work within a multi-disciplinary team for transmission line design. Collaborate with Power Delivery departments, including Substation Engineering and Protection & Control Engineering. Handle multiple projects, providing detailed design packages compliant with standards and safety codes. Deliver accurate, industry-standard designs with good constructability. Attend site meetings, perform site inspections, and resolve site queries during construction. Support technical and economic evaluation of transmission design studies. Review / supervise calculations, drawings, specifications, and perform assessments and feasibility studies. Prepare proposals, technical scope, effort and cost estimates. Draft engineering details and drawings, supporting revisions. Conduct economic and operational feasibility studies and evaluate alternative systems and methods. Input data for computerized engineering solutions, analyze, and develop standard details and specifications. Support technical analysis, planning, and operational studies. Maintain records of technical documents and drawings. Mentor and guide engineering professionals. Engage in thought leadership activities in the Power and T&D sector. Coordinate with other Business Units for cross-selling and staffing opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned, with up to 20% travel within North America. Key Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil / Structural Engineering; PE registration required. Minimum 10 years of experience in high voltage transmission line projects. Strong knowledge of transmission design, excellent communication, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Technical competence in understanding electrical diagrams, standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI), and practices. Experience supervising engineering teams and making independent decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and preferred Bluebeam. Nice-to-Haves Master's degree in Engineering. Key Info Hybrid work preferred.
