Pediatrics Faculty in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Department of Pediatrics seeks a faculty member in its Ian M. Burr Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Assistant and Associate Professor level on the Clinical Educator (CE) or Clinical Practice (CP) tracks. The Division is currently comprised of seventeen faculty members, one clinical psychologist, seven nurse practitioners and supports an ACGME-approved fellowship training program and a robust research program.

Responsibilities of this position include providing direct patient care in inpatient and ambulatory settings, medical education of students and trainees, and participation in clinical research and / or quality improvement.

Among the largest pediatric endocrinology clinical and research programs in the southeast, over 22,000 outpatient visits are seen annually by our team. Our Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology clinics are geographically separate on our main campus. All physicians are expected to provide care in both settings. We have a strong outreach program to seven offsite locations in middle Tennessee. Over 4,000 children and adolescents are followed in the Children's Diabetes Program, which includes Prediabetes, CF-Related Diabetes clinics, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes programs, and a Type 1 Diabetes Immunotherapy Clinic. The diabetes program is Recognized by the ADA for its Diabetes Self-Management Education Program and staffed by Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, pump specialists, and registered dieticians. We have a strong focus on outpatient education of new-onset diabetes. The Children's Endocrinology Program includes distinct clinical programs for Turner Syndrome, Metabolic Bone Disease, Pediatric Lipid Disorders, Differences in Sex Development, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Pediatric Head and Neck Endocrine Cancer, Adrenoleukodystrophy, and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Programs have dedicated Child Life Specialists, social workers, clinical psychologists, and a specialty pharmacist.

The Division has a very strong clinical and basic research portfolio, including an excellent infrastructure for clinical research. We are a Clinical Center in the Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet consortium among numerous other clinical research affiliations. Currently, there are 49 active clinical trials in the Division : 27 in diabetes and 22 in metabolic bone disease and obesity.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a medical doctorate or equivalent, hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Tennessee, be board certified or Board eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology, have a strong record of clinical care, have a strong record of clinical care, medical evaluation, and scholarship. Preferred applicants will possess outstanding skills in leadership and organization / administration and demonstrate commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, education, and mentorship.
