Position Title : Payroll Specialist

Reports to : Payroll Manager

FLSA Classification : Non-exempt

Direct Reports : None

Job Summary :

The payroll specialist is someone who has an attitude of curiosity, likes solving puzzles, striving for excellence, making an impact on others, recognizes the importance of teamwork, can act with discretion, is able to pivot easily, capable of remaining calm under pressure, focuses on progress, and understands how to prioritize.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to employee inquiries and third-party requests.
  • Maintain proper documentation practices including digital filing, scanning, and system updates.
  • Partner with HR and Benefits teams to support cross-functional payroll processes and resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide administrative and project support as needed, contributing to ongoing payroll process improvements.
  • Review and verify timekeeping records, wage calculations, and deductions.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for 600+ employees in multiple states and locations, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • Prepare payroll reports for internal use and external audits.
  • Stay up to date with compliance at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Perform periodic audits of payroll data.
  • Assist with the year-end payroll process, including W-2 preparation and distribution.
  • Reconcile payroll data.

    • Required Skills

  • 1-3 years of experience in payroll processing preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and use of formulas.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and address sensitive issues with discretion.

    • Education :

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree a plus
  • FPC or CPP a plus

    • Physical Requirements :

    The physical demands of this position will include sitting and standing with occasional light to medium lifting.
