Job Title : Electrophysiology Tech Profession : Electrophysiology Tech Specialty : Electrophysiology Tech Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Day Hours per Shift : 13.5 Experience : Minimum of 2 years License : Required Certifications : ACLS Must-Have : - Thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy - EKG interpretation - Electrical conduction - Proficiency in monitoring and recording EKGs - Competent in overdrive pacing Description : Under the supervision of the leadership of the EP Lab, the Electrophysiology Tech acts as a critical member of the patient care team. They promote a culture of collaboration and patient-centered care in all interactions with patients, families, and hospital personnel. They focus on understanding and meeting the needs of patients, providers, and other staff. The Tech must maintain knowledge of all technical equipment, sterile technique, radiation safety, procedural protocol, and general hospital policies. They must display the ability to handle potential cardiac and non-cardiac related emergencies. The role involves consistent demonstrated competency in equipment operation. This includes biomedical hemodynamic, physiologic monitoring, intravascular ultrasound, and intracardiac echocardiography. The Tech must be proficient in using transvenous pacemaker generators, defibrillators, leadless pacemakers, and various mapping systems. A thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy, EKG interpretation, electric conduction, and physiology is essential. The Tech performs and reviews baseline and intra-procedure patient assessments. They evaluate and monitor patient responses to interventional pacing maneuvers and medications given throughout the case. Responsible for monitoring vital signs, rhythm assessment, and hemodynamic pressures. They assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology studies. This includes scrubbing in to assist the operator, sterile preparation for various cases, and flushing of sheaths. The Electrophysiology Lab offers advanced therapies, including catheter ablation for complex cardiac arrhythmias and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. They also provide cardiac resynchronization therapy for patients with congestive heart failure and laser lead extraction.
