Position Overview
The State of South Carolina is seeking an experienced Network Technician - Consultant to support and enhance the agency's facilities and network documentation efforts. This position reports directly to the Senior Network Architect and will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing the agency's infrastructure, while also contributing to a dashboard-driven view of assets and facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Network Operations & Support
Install and implement LAN and wireless infrastructure, including switches, cabling, access points, and related components.Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex network issues and implement preventive measures.Monitor, analyze, and optimize network performance.Document incident resolution paths and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.Support network hardware design, configuration, and infrastructure planning.Maintain and update a complete network equipment inventory and assist with lifecycle management.Research and evaluate new networking technologies; provide recommendations for integration.Facilities & Dashboard Support
Collaborate with Facilities and Finance teams to update the master inventory of DSS locations, including :Property ownership, address, county, square footage, network bandwidth, parking, access control systems, cost, and staffing data.
Work with Facilities and IT teams to update floor plans and system inventories.Add workstation and equipment placement details to office floorplans (PDF / CAD).Develop and maintain a centralized dashboard (in collaboration with DTS staff) that :Displays facility and system data.
Links to floorplans and CAD files.Integrates DSS personnel counts, network components, and infrastructure data.Ensure all facility and asset data are well-documented and easily reportable.Project-Based Activities
Perform physical audits and cleanup of network closets, ensuring labeling and organization per industry standards.Update and maintain CAD / PDF "as-built" network diagrams, including cable pathways, patch panels, and rack layouts across 68 DSS office locations.Conduct on-site cellular signal assessments using SIM-based tools to support SD-WAN carrier selection.Deliverables
Network closet audit reports with before / after photos and patch documentation.Updated floorplans and network layouts for all 68 offices.Monthly summary reports detailing activities, hours, and progress.SOPs for patching and network closet standards.Fully implemented facility dashboard with up-to-date data.Required Skills
(Ranked in order of importance)
Solid understanding of data network services and communications.Strong knowledge of data network design, equipment configuration, and connectivity.Proficiency with office automation systems, information processing operations, fiber optics, and microcomputer hardware / software.Competence in computer system analysis, design, testing, debugging, and maintenance techniques.Ability to create and present both technical and non-technical documentation and reports clearly and concisely.Preferred Skills

Advanced knowledge of network configurations, protocols, and troubleshooting.Skilled in cable management, patch panels, and fiber optic maintenance.Strong documentation skills for configurations, procedures, and incident tracking.Familiarity with wireless infrastructure, cloud networking (SD-WAN, Azure), and VoIP systems.Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.Equivalent experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.Certifications
Not required, but industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA) are preferred.Lumen and / or its clients will not provide equipment (Laptop, monitor, etc.) to the selected contractor. The contractor must have their own equipment.
