JOB SUMMARY In alignment with Northeastern University’s External Affairs department, The Defense Industrial Base Institute (DIBI) seeks an experienced Manager – Digital Communications to help support its marketing and communication efforts in support of a major new research institute at Northeastern University. With funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), DIBI is focused on revitalizing and modernizing our nation’s maritime and defense industrial base.. The Manager – Digital Communications will include working alongside and at the direction of the Sr. Director-Public Outreach to help highlight, disseminate, and create content for a wide range of stakeholders. The Manager – Digital Communications will play a crucial role to support the creation and execution of overall communication strategy, manage day-to-day marketing and communication operations, support event production across Northeastern’s regional campuses and with DIBI’s collaborative institutional partners, domestic and international, to help drive meaningful outcomes in support of the Defense Industrial Base. The position will report into the Sr. Director-Public Outreach and will directly manage a Graphic Designer and a Communications co-op graduate student. He / She will help to develop integrated, broad-based marketing communication plans, strategies and measurements in support of DIBI’s mission. He / She will help shape the marketing and communications vision of the institute’s core activities and will play an integral role in its execution across a wide-range of delivery formats. Specific activities will include support for marketing and communications efforts for in-person and virtual events; management of marketing budgets, contracts, vendor relationships; use of event technologies and platforms. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will be experienced in a wide range of digital areas, including social media, content marketing, community management, website design and architecture, SEO, analytics, ad serving, and CMS development. He / she will have the ability to understand the big picture, while managing the day-to-day implementation of the established marketing and communications strategies for DIBI. The candidate will have an understanding and passion for marketing and how to apply to the overall vision to ensure DIBI’s successful performance of its mission. The Manager – Digital Communications must be a highly motivated, goal-oriented team player who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, where flexibility, creativity, and resourcefulness are required for success. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related discipline 3-5 years experience in marketing communications functions including (not limited to) digital strategy, content marketing, digital advertising, website design, strategy and deployment, user experience and architecture, SEO strategy development; Agency or consulting experience a plus Strong written and editing skills for a variety of marketing channels and stakeholders (Academia, Industry, Government) Demonstrated success in managing major strategic projects that support marketing and communication initiatives Experience in social media marketing, including (but not limited to), content development, community management, influencer marketing, emerging technologies. Highly creative with experience devising effective digital assets, digital campaigns, and web presence. Experience providing creative direction and support Understanding of website analytic tools and usability testing; Google Analytics experience (certification a plus). Should possess strong problem-solving skills; and proven ability to successfully work with vendors and agencies to produce results. Familiarity with content management systems and exposure to marketing automation systems and CRM systems. Experience with Adobe Suite programs (InDesign, Photoshop, etc). a plus. Ability to proactively gain external industry knowledge and continued learning. This role may require up to 20% travel based off of DIBI needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Manage the full lifecycle of the institute digital and print marketing and communication initiative (DIBI).
Responsible for the refreshing and content creation of print marketing collateral. Responsible for oversight of Graphic Designer and Graduate Co-op student. Manage and scale website(s) to scale with business objectives, working with outside web team as necessary Aligning with business development priorities for the creation of digital and print marketing programs. Aligning with Northeastern’s External Affairs for all drafted external marketing materials to be reviewed / approved by the department. Extend the reach and engagement value of content across channels
Manage content across channels (web, social, media, etc.) to ensure all content is optimized and on strategy. Establish and enhance branding and creative efforts to ensure consistency and effectiveness. Responsible for proactively gaining external industry knowledge and staying abreast of trends. Customer Relationship management
Work effectively with cross-functional teams (across campus, academic institutions, funding agencies). Exhibit strong collaboration skills and comfort in a fast-moving and innovation driven work environment. Responsible for understanding quantitative performance goals and working towards those goals. Lead data driven insights and digital benchmarking efforts
Responsible for the reporting and analysis of digital effectiveness (social media, website, etc.) based on established KPIs and present findings in a clear and concise manner. Compensation Grade / Pay Type : 108S Expected Hiring Range : $59,425.00 – $83,935.00 With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
