Job descriptionSetting poles Installing wires and transformers Routine line and equipment maintenance Assist linemen with elevated tasks and equipment handling. Assemble and stage materials on the ground; hoist tools and supplies using handlines. Fill pole holes and trenches using hand tools such as shovels and tampers. Flag traffic and support job site setup and safety compliance. Maintain organization of tools and materials on service vehicles. Clean and organize job sites upon work completion to ensure safety and readiness for inspection. Follow all company safety protocols and participate in safety training. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors. Valid CDL Class A license preferred (must obtain within 90 days of hire if not already held). Must pass drug screening, alcohol test, background check, clearinghouse, and MVR check. Willingness to travel long distances on short notice. Available to work in remote locations and for extended periods. Able to perform duties in all types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement conditions. Willing and able to work overtime, including nights and weekends, as required. Basic understanding of utility operations and power distribution systems. Excellent attention to detail, safety awareness, and accuracy. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision. Strong time management, organization, and multitasking skills. High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Ability to take direction, follow safety protocols, and make decisions in the field. Willingness to be a team player and contribute to a positive work environment. Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and wind. Exposure to electrical hazards, heavy equipment, and construction site conditions. Frequent travel to various job sites with occasional overnight stays. Work hours may vary depending on project requirements and emergency response situations. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, standing, and lifting are required for extended periods. Use of hand and power tools involving substantial hand, wrist, and finger movement. Required to have close visual acuity for reading instruments, measuring distances, and performing detailed tasks. Must be able to wear and operate all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Self-Motivated – Takes initiative and responsibility for safety and quality. Team-Oriented – Works cooperatively with others in a crew setting. Customer-Focused – Acts with professionalism and respect. Safety-Minded – Adheres to safety protocols and uses PPE properly. Job Summary
The Private Utility Distribution Overhead Groundman plays a vital role in supporting the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead power lines and related equipment. Working under the supervision of a Foreman and alongside a skilled crew, this position ensures safe and efficient field operations through hands-on support, material handling, and site preparation. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and eager to contribute to utility infrastructure projects in dynamic outdoor environments.
