Required Certifications

ACLS, BLS (AHA), BronxCare Hospital Center - Grand Concourse Campus De-escalation Training

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

Must be proficient in :

Phlebotomy

EKG acquisition

Ability to assess detox symptoms

IV USE

No routine IVs on the unit

IVs may be started only in emergencies

DETOX UNIT — SUMMARY

Department : Detox

Maximum Census : 20 patients

Staffing Ratios :

RNs : 2 nurses for 20 patients (1 : 10 ratio) — same for days & nights

Techs : 2 patient care technicians per shift

Charge Nurse : ANCC (Assistant Nursing Care Coordinator) functions as charge; takes a patient assignment and is counted among the 2 RNs

PCM : Available during business hours; by phone after hours

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS

Mandatory : BLS

ACLS

One de-escalation certification prior to start :

TRUST Training

CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

PMCS (Preventing & Managing Crisis Situations)

MOAB

Preferred : PALS (for floating)

PATIENT POPULATION

Adults 18+ typically arriving directly from the streets, staying 4–5 days before transfer to Rehab.

Common Conditions :

Medical : HTN, diabetes, complications of substance use

Behavioral Health : Bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, other psychiatric comorbidities

Substance Use Disorder leading to medical and behavioral instability

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

Strong medical assessment capability; Med-Surg experience preferred

Psych experience not required but helpful

Ability to assess detox symptoms

2 Techs per Shift

Duties include :

Q15-minute safety rounding

Vitals

Room checks

Weights (Saturdays)

ADLs

Direct patient observation

Phlebotomy

Blood glucose checks

EKGs

1 : 1 observation

Assist RN as needed

RT : Not available

Telemetry : None; RNs perform EKGs as needed

SCHEDULING

Weekends : Every other weekend

Call / Standby : None

Attendance : High priority – excessive call-outs / tardiness may result in termination

Block scheduling not guaranteed
