Patient Care Assistant Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), performs basic patient care activities and unit support tasks to promote safe, efficient care and patient throughput. Assists with activities of daily living and routine monitoring; maintains a clean, well-stocked environment; supports nursing / physician staff and tech desk operations. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department. FLSA : Non-Exempt.

Essential Functions

• Performs basic patient care as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake / output recording.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms and common areas clean, safe, and appropriately stocked.
• Manages the tech desk; supports nursing / physician staff and department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Participates in performance improvement and required education; performs other duties as assigned.

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure : Occupational exposure may be present for all employees in this role.

Physical Requirements (typical) : Frequent standing, walking, reaching, keyboard entry, repetitive hand / arm and foot / leg movements, kneeling, and lifting / moving patients; occasional sitting and squatting; rare running or climbing. Near / far vision and depth perception frequent / constant; color distinction frequent.

Environmental Exposures : Occasional exposure to biohazardous waste, communicable diseases / pathogens, dust, gases / vapors / fumes, hazardous chemicals / medications; latex exposure frequent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education : High School diploma preferred.

License : SRNA or EMT preferred.

Certifications : BCLS required; Handle with Care preferred.

Skills : Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read / write / speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
