Role Overview

Sales Associates serve our thrift stores by assisting customers with their overall shopping experience, providing a clean, safe environment, displaying merchandise for easy access, supporting the checkout process, and answering customer questions in person or by phone. In-store training will be provided.

Hours of Availability

Part-time with a flexible schedule between 8 : 30 am – 6 : 30 pm, Monday – Saturday; closed on Sundays.

Locations

Must be willing to work at either store as scheduled : 2nd Helpings – 3425 Orange Ave, NE; Williamson Rd, NE – Roanoke, VA 24012.

Compensation

$14.00 per hour (non-exempt hourly).

Successful Qualifications

Possess a sincere love of Christ and a Christian walk evident of that love.

Genuine interest in the safety and well-being of guests and team members.

Ability to engage with customers, guests, volunteers, and team members.

Basic knowledge of general sales and merchandising processes.

Willingness to exceed "Mission standard" expectations.

Basic computer and math skills.

Strong work ethic and commitment; works as scheduled, including holidays and weekends as assigned.

Strong listening and communication skills to execute instructions and exhibit professionalism.

Strong organizational skills to assist with multi-tasking daily assignments and special projects.

Duties

Stock items on the sales floor from the storage room.

Process donations as needed, steam clothing.

Checkout processes, including use of cash register, computer, and basic math skills.

Assist customers throughout the store; answer questions and explain processes.

Answer phone calls to assist customers; transfer and / or take a message as requested.

Basic housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Perform any other duties assigned by leadership / management.

Physical Demands

Prolonged periods of physical activity (˜80 % sitting or standing), prolonged standing, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling objects up to 30 lb, frequent computer use, lifting up to 50 lb (not typically repetitive). Temperatures and noise levels may vary; exposure to cleaning chemicals occasionally. Rescue Mission of Roanoke is a drug-free and tobacco-free workplace.
