Other Conditions : General funds to begin approximately January 2026 contingent on satisfactory performance operational needs actual staffing requirements and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month or 11-month to 9-month as operational needs are required. This assignment may include day evening and weekend teaching assignment teaching on campus and off-campus at military bases and / or secondary education sites (high schools). To teach on military bases U.S. Department of Defense security clearance will be required. To teach Early College courses for the State Department of Education schools background checks will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • To instruct students in administration of justice criminal justice police organization juvenile procedures community relations law enforcement courts constitutional law and security techniques.
  • Work under the guidance of colleagues to develop an understanding of student needs in discipline or area of primary responsibility.
  • Work independently and with the guidance of colleagues to develop select and implement strategies to meet student needs and to develop student learning outcomes.
  • Develop curriculum and align courses to meet student needs and college objectives.
  • Prepare develop revise and implement course outlines student learning outcomes and syllabi.
  • Serve as faculty mentor to administration of justice students.
  • Maintain subject matter currency and be willing to continually update courses to keep up with college and student needs.
  • Perform program and course assessment; assist in institution level assessment.
  • Coordinate appropriate new student orientation and student advising.
  • Work with various state agencies community and other partnerships to improve administration of justice education and facilitate student opportunities and success.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry professionals through the Colleges program advisory council.
  • Related work activities include but are not limited to course scheduling program budgeting maintaining program articulation agreements assisting in campus-related student activities; participating in faculty / administrative committees campus and community service and in-service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self-development; independently planning organizing and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments and in collaboration with the Dean Division Chair faculty and staff.
  • Provide guidance and instruction in the development of off-campus and non-credit AJ programs.
  • Instructional assignments may involve distance education and early college high school instruction.
  • Must maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught. Must be available for evening weekend and off-campus assignments teaching on campus and off-campus assignments (e.g. military bases high schools attending recruitment events) and / or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet. To teach on a military base Department of Defense security clearance will be required. To teach Early College courses for DOE schools background checks will be required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Instructor CC : Masters Degree in Administration of Justice or Criminal Justice; OR Bachelors Degree in Administration of Justice or Criminal Justice plus three (3) years of related work experience; OR Associate Degree in Administration of Justice or Criminal Justice plus five (5) years of related work experience; OR 15 college credits in the academic disciplines cited above plus seven (7) years of related work experience including training.
  • Assistant Professor CC : Masters Degree in the academic disciplines cited above plus five (5) years of progressively responsible related work experience; OR Bachelors Degree in the academic disciplines cited above plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible related work experience; OR Associate Degree in the academic disciplines cited above plus ten (10) years of progressively responsible related work experience; OR 15 college credits plus twelve (12) years of progressively responsible related work experience including training.
  • Note : Minimum qualifications (degree and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary college and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available others will be considered as acting instructor.

    Desirable Qualifications :

  • Evidence of successful teaching in a community college setting or post-secondary level.
  • Experience in teaching a wide range of administration of justice / criminal justice courses.
  • Knowledge of administration of justice / criminal justice resources in the community.
  • Experience and willingness to build a successful academic program in administration of justice that meets student needs and college objectives.
  • Experience in developing / modifying college level courses.
  • Demonstrated familiarity or prior experience working with the cultural social and economic diversity of Hawaiis student population.
  • Possess supportive attitude toward student learning and be able to create a nurturing classroom environment for students of cultural social and economic diversity of Hawaiis student population.
  • Demonstrated success serving as a mentor advisor or team leader.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience in use of technology to support instruction and student success including but not limited to LMS CRM Early Alert and presentation software.
  • A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.
