Scrub Tech

The Surgical Technologist reports directly to the Surgical Manager and is responsible to assist in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the OR sterile team, creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons. Maintains proper care and storage of supplies and equipment used for operating room and emergency room patient care. Mandatory call rotation requires 30 minute response time.

• Education : Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program with current CPR certification. Certification is preferred.
• Prior Work Experience :

Prior Operating Room experience is preferred.

Must be able to handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Must have an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Must have the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Must be familiar with the washing, decontamination, and sterilization process of instruments and equipment. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients of all ages. Must have good organizational skills, computer knowledge, and excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Provides for privacy through maintaining confidentiality. Follows verbal and written instructions. Must use sound judgment and good sense with regards to changes in patient status. Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations. Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work. Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
