About the team and role :   Dave is looking for a highly experienced leader in the fintech product and regulatory legal space to lead our Product and Regulatory Legal group. The role will lead a current team of two Sr. Product and Regulatory Counsels in providing strategic and balanced product legal and regulatory advice in a highly dynamic, tech-focused product and regulatory environment. The role will lead the legal effort to manage our fintech bank partner and related partner relationships, advise on existing and new product strategies for banking, lending, neobanking and subscriptions products, provide strategic advice and oversight in the regulatory relations area, and manage strategy for major consumer litigation and regulatory inquiries. As new products are launched, the team may grow and may include state licensing and exam management.

What you’ll do :

  • Develop a high performing, highly engaged product and regulatory legal team, ensuring all team members are clear on what is expected of them as individuals and as part of the team, know where they stand against these expectations, and have the coaching to achieve their career goals
  • Partner with the product, design, marketing, engineering and security teams and the Dave leadership team in developing strategic enhancements to existing banking, lending and subscription products and in developing creative and unique approaches to meet business objectives in launching new products
  • Develop positive regulatory relationships; anticipate and keep abreast of regulatory changes and guidance affecting Dave, its products and its partner banks; be a representative for Dave in efforts to impact evolving regulatory requirements; set up and maintain a robust regulatory tracking and change management process
  • Partner with the compliance and member success teams in improving internal processes, controls, scalability and operational excellence to ensure regulatory compliance; utilizing automation and AI whenever possible
  • Develop efficient and effective processes within Legal and compliance (leveraging automation and AI); develop and implement a strategy on how to best leverage and manage outside counsel vs. internal resources for maximum impact
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the leadership team on product and regulatory related matters

What you'll need :

  • 15+ years of legal / regulatory leadership roles in consumer financial services and / or fintech and expansive expertise in the related federal and state laws and requirements;
  • 5+ years in fintech product and regulatory legal leadership role
  • Proven ability to balance legal risks with business strategy in a creative and flexible manner
  • Experience overseeing bank partnership transactions / structures in fintech lending, banking and / or neobanking; knowledge of various bank partner structures to mitigate risks;
  • Experience leading and developing a team of product and / or regulatory attorneys
  • JD and Bar admission (any state) required
  • Experience dealing with state and federal banking regulators (CFPB, OCC, FDIC and Federal Reserve) and influencing outcomes of proposed regulatory changes
  • Strong communication skills, ability to lead independently and influence key executive-level stakeholders in a fast paced environment with competing priorities
