MFHS is currently seeking a full-time Accountant for our Administrative Office .
Job Summary :
The Accountant position is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and maintaining accurate and timely journal entries in support of the organization's financial reporting process. This role ensures that transactions are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP, internal policies, and audit requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and a solid understanding of accounting principles. All job tasks must be completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepare, validate, and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries with accuracy and within monthly deadlines. Collaborate with departments to gather information needed to prepare accurate entries.
- Review financial data for inconsistencies or errors and make necessary corrections. Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring all required entries are completed and documented.
- Prepare work papers and maintain organized electronic and paper documentation for all transactions including scanning.
- Assist with the development and enhancement of the journal entry procedures, allocations, and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit requests providing schedules, documentation, and explanations.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
- Process, validate, and post cash receipts by properly coding transactions and entering the data into the accounting system.
- Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals of MFHS.
- Backup to the Grant and Compliance Accountant.
- Assist with other duties as directed.
Qualifications / Requirements / Experience :
Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field is required.1-3 years of relevant general ledger experience is preferred.Experience in a nonprofit or government accounting environment is preferred.Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.High level of accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Manage multiple projects / tasks concurrently to meet various deadlines without loss of efficiency or accuracy.
