About The Position

Description :
The surgical tech will be responsible for assisting in the operating room during pediatric surgical procedures.
The unit consists of a total of 30 operating rooms, with 3 to 4 pediatric surgeries performed each day.
The average number of cases per day will depend on the service line.
Common surgical cases include pediatric general, pediatric / adult ENT, pediatric / adult dental, pediatric urology, pediatric / adult ophthalmology, and simple pediatric orthopedic cases.
Scrubbing is required for this position.
A primary charge nurse is present daily, and a house supervisor is available 24 / 7.
There will be one RN and one surgical tech assigned to each operating room, as well as on-call staff when needed.
The electronic medical record system used is Epic.
The schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts from Monday through Friday, with potential call shifts for nights, weekends, and holidays.
There are no set days off; however, an effort is made to limit time off to no more than two Fridays or two Mondays in a six-week scheduling cycle for fairness.
Self-scheduling is an option, but schedules will be balanced prior to publication.
Weekend call is required on a rotation of one weekend every four weeks.
During holidays, staff will be on call for a 24-hour period if required.
Call response time is expected to be within 30 minutes.
Staff may need to float within the department as needed for staffing purposes.
Typically, floating will involve assisting between rooms, providing lunch breaks, or serving as a second scrub, depending on experience.
Hospital-issued scrubs are provided, and they are not to leave the premises.
Orientation consists of unit-specific training for 1-2 days followed by 2-3 days of operating room orientation to familiarize staff with cases and surgeons.
