About the Role

The Executive Director will be responsible for providing visionary and strategic leadership to advance the organization's mission of building a sustainable local food system. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the ED will oversee all aspects of operations, programming, and administration, ensuring that initiatives translate the mission into measurable outcomes. The role includes directing fundraising and development efforts, cultivating diverse revenue streams, and managing budgets exceeding $1 million. The ED will serve as a public champion for farmers, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship, building strong partnerships with funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders. In addition, the ED will inspire and manage a high-performing team, foster collaboration across the organization, and ensure that programs, advocacy, and outreach efforts are impactful, innovative, and aligned with long-term strategic goals. The ideal candidate will bring significant nonprofit leadership and management experience, including a strong record of working with boards of trustees and leading mission-driven organizations. They should demonstrate expertise in budget development, monitoring, and financial reporting, with the ability to manage budgets over $1 million from multiple funding sources. A proven track record in fundraising, marketing, and public relations is essential, along with the ability to engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Candidates must be deeply committed to equity, inclusion, and advancing sustainable local food systems. The position requires a consistent presence in the New Jersey office at least three days per week, combined with regular community engagement to strengthen relationships with farmers, funders, and local partners.
