Job description

Join Te Whatu Ora at a key time of change where you will meaningfully contribute to our kaupapa of creating a more equitable, accessible, cohesive and people-centred health system. This is mahi that will improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in Aotearoa, and we've got an opportunity for you to be part of it.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

Our Business Services team is here to make sure that Data and Digital thrive like a well-oiled machine. We're the ones who help set the course, gather resources, and make sure things run smoothly - think of us as the ultimate planners and communicators, making sure everyone is on the same page!

We're like the superhero support squad for Data and Digital. From keeping everyone in the loop through top-notch communication (we're buddies with the Communication and Engagement team) to making sure the right people are in the right places (our friends in People and Culture are our partners here), we've got it all covered.

We've got a handle on best practices, training, and making sure everyone's got the right skills. Plus, we're the guardians of risk management and privacy – keeping things safe and sound in the world of Data and Digital is our specialty.

Mōu | About you

As our IT Risk Specialist – Operations, you will be at the forefront of managing IT risk assessments and reporting for our Data & Digital projects and organisational changes. Your main responsibilities will be to guide the creation of risk management frameworks specifically tailored for Data & Digital needs, in line with our Te Whatu Ora policies. You'll also play a pivotal role in shaping consistent risk and control practices on a national level for all our projects and change initiatives.

But that's not all! You'll get to interact with the wider business, keeping them in the loop about risks and engaging them in the process. This role has a wide scope, supporting our Data & Digital leadership team in ensuring that our risk management aligns with the size and scale of our business and you will champion risk and business continuity across the entire organisation.

Your days will be filled with developing and maintaining risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures that fit perfectly into our projects and change initiatives. You'll assess risks for IT and change projects, always keeping design and delivery risks in mind. Collaboration will be key, as you work closely with project managers, business stakeholders, and IT teams. Together, you'll spot risks early, analyse and prioritise them, and put in place the right controls and strategies to mitigate them.

As part of our Data & Digital team, you'll lead the charge in maintaining the Project and Programme risk registers. Your expertise will ensure that we identify and document potential risks and vulnerabilities, giving them the right priority and creating action plans to handle them effectively. Your involvement with both business and IT stakeholders will help define risk tolerances and acceptance criteria for all our projects and changes.

Your leadership skills will shine, as you guide the Data & Digital Leadership Team and others in managing and mitigating risks properly. You'll stay informed about emerging risks and trends by analysing internal and external information. And let's not forget about communication – you'll be sharing updates about risks and actions with key groups, including Clinical and Business Teams, the D&D leadership team, and Executive SROs.

Preference will be given to applications of significantly affected Kaimahi through the change process.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in IT risk management role(s). Proven experience in managing risks for large and complex project and change environments, preferably in a managerial or leadership role for a large organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and risk management practices.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders (incl. managing teams of specialists, management of remote/hybrid/virtual teams).
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights. Proficiency in data analysis tools, reporting software, and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (advanced written and verbal communications, experience writing reports for Executive and Board audiences)

Ka kawea e koe | You will bring:

  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth

Ko te mahi e tika ana mō te ao hurihuri nei | Work that suits today's ever-changing world

Te Whatu Ora supports flexible and hybrid working for our kaimahi. In roles that don't require an in-person element, we encourage you to ‘work from where you are.' We want our national teams to be made up of diverse people from across the motu, just like our health system.

Tō mātou whakahaere ki te tika, te rerekētanga, me te whai wāhi mai |Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

Our name, Te Whatu Ora, means ‘the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining together of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all. Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.

At Te Whatu Ora we acknowledge and respect our people's diversity and spiritual needs, ensuring a safe workplace that is a whānau orientated and supportive environment. We are working towards a system that better meets the complex demands of a growing population, addresses the persistent inequalities experienced by Māori and ensures greater access, experience and outcomes for those traditionally not well served by the system – Māori, Pacific and Disabled People.

Tō tūranga i roto i Te Whatu Ora | Your place in Te Whatu Ora

When you join us, you become part of transforming the health system. This is a once in a life-time change, that will touch the lives of everyone in Aotearoa, and future generations. We want to see the real you in your application and welcome the real you on board if you come and work with us. Skills are gained across many areas of our life, not just in formal employment. If you can demonstrate the skills listed in the ad, but the experience was gained through whānau life, community or mahi aroha (volunteering) we encourage you to apply and share your story with us in your cover letter.

We particularly welcome applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
