MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processes, codes, posts and / or reconciles payments, deposits and credit card transactions. Assists with online payment form management.
- Prepares cash banks and administers all school petty cash funds.
- Assists with purchasing card transaction processing and reconciliation.
- Processes invoices, check requests, expense reports and other accounts payable transactions.
- Supports a variety of student and program billing functions including, but not limited to : annual tuition and fees billing, monthly billing, account collections, and customer communications.
- Reconciles records and / or accounts and prepares financial reports as assigned or requested.
- Provides input and assists in developing and refining accounting, internal control and financial reporting systems and communications particularly in areas of responsibility.
- Interacts as first point of contact in the Business Operations office and provides assistance to both internal and external customers including but not limited to employees, students, parents, and business representatives.
- Assists Chief Financial Officer with calendar management, document processing, and event planning. Performs a variety of business-related administrative tasks including, but not limited to, incoming and outgoing mail processing for Business Operations division; filing, archiving, and records maintenance for business documentation; and forms ordering and inventory.
- Engages actively in the school's diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism work in furtherance of Cary Academy's commitment to equity and justice. In conjunction with manager, identifies and pursues ongoing professional development. Completes all required administrative, operational, and professional development tasks and activities in a responsive and timely manner per school operating policies and procedures. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The individual in this position must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :
Knowledge of GAAP, preferably as it relates to non-profit institutions.Working knowledge of personal productivity and accounting software in a Windows environment.Intermediate understanding of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial accounting.Basic understanding of financial reporting and internal controls.Exposure to accounting and regulatory requirements relating to non-profit organizations.Excellent organizational, and interpersonal skills; must have a customer-centered focus and willingness to deliver service proactively.Ability to effectively work with others.Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy essential, and to handle a multiple-task, deadline-oriented work environment.The individual in this position is expected to :

Experience : 3 years of accounting experience with an Associate's degree; no accounting experience with a Bachelor's Degree but one year of related work experience preferred; prefer some experience in a not-for-profit or independent school setting. Retail and / or administrative support experience also helpful.
Equivalency : Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
WORK SCHEDULE
Days : In general, this position is scheduled to work on campus Monday through Friday year-round, but is expected to work as necessary to ensure that position responsibilities are consistently met. There may be certain work requirements that could result in a need for temporary modification of this schedule.
Hours : This position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The actual times worked are determined by the supervisor and may fluctuate given the nature and seasonality of this position and are determined in coordination with the Head of School.
