WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Finance Director is responsible for managing the activities and personnel for a specific Finance or Accounting area or department. Generally responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and / or the monitoring of management controls and processes to ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and financial / management best practice.

The Finance Director is responsible for the management, maintenance, and reporting of all financial data related to the External Affairs Business Unit (approximately $15M annual budget). This includes annual budget development, financial analysis and projections, maintaining all financial information, including the accounts payable and funds received and receivable. Provides analytical thinking and strategic recommendations related to finances for Chief External Affairs Office and External Affairs Management Team as well as overall program management, organizational planning, policy development and implementation.

The Finance Director works closely with Contract Specialist, Finance and Grant Specialists and Director of Finance & Operations Policy and Public Funding to ensure terms and conditions of contracts and agreements are met, properly documented, and vendor invoices are paid in a timely manner.

They will serve as the Finance Lead for all grants to External Affairs. In this role they will co-manage the budgeting and financial reporting requirements of the grants and consolidate and review reports prepared by the project managers and Director of Finance & Operations in order to present analysis and commentary. They will support philanthropy operations by providing the Director of Development for Policy and policy leads with grant and general program budgets, and by reviewing grant language to allocate funds so that donor intent and program needs are met.

Duties are highly confidential and require broad and comprehensive knowledge of TNC policies. Candidate should excel at problem solving, provide innovative solutions and work interactively. This position reports to the Director of Operations and works in close collaboration with the Policy and Public Funding Management Team.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and developing staff.
  • Experience with GAAP.
  • Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable.
  • CPA or CIA may be required.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $76,000 – $124,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
