Job Summary :
The Surgical Assistant functions as an integral part of the perioperative team as the assistant to the surgeon. Also functions when required as the first or second surgical technician or second circulator under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN).
Job Responsibilities :
Applies the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to maintain a sterile environment.Demonstrates competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment and appropriate knowledge base.Provides age specific care to obstetrical patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the department.Assists in organization and coordination of supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department.Maintains a safe environment for patients, co-workers and self.Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to safety and legal requirements established at the hospital and unit level and established policies and procedures.Applies knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology.Perform scrubbing duties as needed.Performs preceptor duties.Charges for equipment and supplies.Assists in room turnover.Assists with supply ordering, inventory control, and supply chain management as necessary.Collaborates with surgeons and OR team to ensure needed trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for each procedure.Participate in Quality Assessment / Performance Improvement and Infection Control Committee's as needed.Applies principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to maintain a sterile environment.Demonstrates competency in skills, judgement and knowledge base.Provides care to patients in accordance with established policies and procedures in the department.Assist in organization and coordination of supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department.Perform Scrub duties as needed and assist with room turnover.Collaborates with surgeon and OR team to ensure needed trays, instrumentation and supplies are available for each procedure.Required Skills & Experience :
Three plus (3) + years of surgical assisting training in at least five major services.Preferred Skills & Experience :
