POSITION : Staff, Non-Exempt, Full-time (40 Hours)

SALARY RANGE : $22.23 Per Hour

INTRODUCTORY PERIOD : Six (6) Months

Definition Of Classification

The Public Safety Officer performs duties to provide security and protection over people and property within the college community, ensuring a safe campus environment. Responsibilities include patrolling, securing buildings, grounds, enforcing campus rules, and acting as a liaison to local authorities. The department operates 24 / 7.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintain campus security through patrolling, responding to calls, investigating incidents, and reporting activities.
  • Direct traffic, crowd control, escorting, and assisting access to buildings.
  • Investigate crimes and incidents, identify suspicious activities, and work with outside agencies.
  • Prepare reports and document activities.
  • Enforce rules, warn violators, and act as liaison with authorities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Requires a high school diploma, one year of law enforcement or related experience, a valid California driver's license, physical and psychological assessments, and a background check.

Special License / Certification

  • Basic POST Certificate or higher, or Level 1 Reserve Officer POST Certificate.
  • PC 832 course, California Guard Card with Baton permit, CPR, AED, and First Aid certificates within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge And Skills

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and public safety principles.
  • Ability to interpret laws and enforce regulations.
  • Strong judgment, communication skills, and ability to remain calm in emergencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, report writing, and operating safety and communication equipment.
  • Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

    Includes outdoor work, long walks, climbing, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Work may require after-hours and emergency responses.
