SR Electrical Engineer, MEP / Facilities – 635088

Location : Charlotte, NC

Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will bring broad experience in power distribution, lighting, low-voltage (power-limited) systems, and telecommunications design. This role is responsible for planning, design, and coordination of electrical systems, ensuring alignment with project expectations through collaboration with internal team members and clients. The candidate should have a background in low-voltage systems, including security and access control, CCTV, telecommunications with wireless and high-speed data access, and structured cabling standards. The ideal candidate will have experience leading and supervising a team.

Essential Functions (may include but are not limited to) :

  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects.
  • Review and prepare technical specifications, plans, contract documents, and cost estimates.
  • Support resolution of design issues through field investigations, inspections, and detailed design analysis.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring satisfaction and project success.
  • Contribute to team expansion through strategic planning and support implementation of broader business and marketing initiatives.
  • Draft construction cost estimates and prepare progress reports, pay estimates, and documentation for final material and quantity approval.
  • Adapt and modify design recommendations in response to actual field conditions.
  • Develop technical materials to support marketing and business development efforts.
  • Provide technical support for MEP and / or airport-related low-voltage systems infrastructure design.
  • Help establish and maintain design templates, standards, and best practices for low-voltage systems.
  • Evaluate contractors’ compliance with construction documentation and assess job performance.
  • Coordinate utility infrastructure requirements into low-voltage system designs.
  • Review project documentation to ensure integration of low-voltage systems.
  • Design low-voltage systems, including layouts, wiring diagrams, equipment selections, interfaces, and fiber / cable transitions.
  • Lead QA / QC processes for the electrical department.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing workload updates to the Team Manager.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required with limited notice.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • RCDD and Infocomm CTS certifications are desirable.
  • Revit proficiency preferred.
  • Familiarity with applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Experience with low-voltage systems (fire alarm, security, access control, video, CCTV, communications, networks).
  • Experience in airport-related projects is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of TIA / EIA industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex design challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and handle tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • High level of discretion when handling confidential client data and documentation.
  • Solid command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and professional vocabulary.
  • Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with ability to obtain North Carolina licensure within six (6) months is required.
  • Ability to become licensed in multiple states is preferred.
