JOB SUMMARY
The National Senior Lab Manager reports to the Director of Extraction and is integral to the success and organization of our extraction labs and expanded facilities. This position oversees the entire extraction, refinement, and manufacturing process in accordance with the state and company standards. This position is also responsible for adhering to and improving standard operating procedures for extraction and proprietary processing techniques, enforcing safety standards and standard operating procedures, facilitating equipment repairs, and supporting strategic initiatives and new product launches within the company.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITESh
- Collaborate with Director of Extraction to develop and streamline extraction and post-processing methodology; this includes, but is not limited to hydrocarbon, ethanol, and solventless extracts.
- Frequent travel to all lab sites (nationwide) to provide leadership and technical guidance to achieve company goals.
- Act as a subject matter expert for all extraction and processing activities, equipment repairs, and method development.
- Plan and organize production schedules; analyze production requirements and work assignments based upon capacity to achieve production schedule and departmental objectives; optimize and scale-up existing extraction processes to increase production in accordance with demand.
- Facilitate and manage repairs of lab processing equipment at all lab sites; manage preventative maintenance and spare parts programs; work with current vendors and managers to maintain equipment functionality and minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain updated inventory, status records, and maintenance logs of all extraction equipment - proactively recognize when equipment needs service.
- Play a major role in training all lab staff (managers and technicians) on all extraction / laboratory-related procedures; facilitate completion of comprehensive training documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering to ensure appropriate environmental standards are maintained in each lab.
- Collaborate with EHS / Safety on critical safety standards of each lab.
- Ensure constant improvement of the team's knowledge base on lab procedures and extraction methods, including safety awareness, knowledge of hazards, OSHA, Food Safety, and quality control; ensure these improvements align with company standards.
- Adhere to state regulatory requirements; maintain inventory, safety / environmental, and document control.
- Enforce documentation and data-recording procedures across all sites; work with managers on data reporting; analyze data for trends and modify methods to align with those trends.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of extraction capacity models and KPIs for the extraction department.
- Promote an environment of safety, continual improvement, and open communication with all levels of staff.
- Onboard remediation technologies for pesticides, heavy metals, and color, as needed.
- Implement research and development within production to aid in continuous improvement.
- Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory workflow, product quality, and COGs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or relevant degree.3+ years of experience managing cannabis labs.3-5+ years of hands-on experience with ethanol extraction, butane extraction, and wiped film distillation.Comfortable with 75% to 100% travel on a regular basis.Technical problem-solving skills in a processing plant environment and of chemical processing equipment.Strong mechanical aptitude and a deep understanding of extraction, scientific, ancillary, and support equipment.A thorough understanding of the fundamentals of ethanol extraction, butane extraction, distillation, and solventless extraction.Creative and comfortable with ambiguity.Must reside within proximity to AWH flagship locations (ideal states include IL, MA, NJ, OH).Strong scientific background with process validation (SPC-statistical process control) experience.Knowledge of cannabinoids, terpenes, and their medicinal benefits is preferred.Must be at least 21 years of age.Must be and remain compliant with any and all regulatory requirements for working in the cannabis industry.Must be able to obtain and retain a Registered Agent Card issued by each state of the states in which AWH operates cannabis extraction labs.Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.COMPANY OVERVIEW
