Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures.
Has the knowledge and ability to obtain quality diagnostic studies safely.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative in utilizing equipment for diagnosis and / or treatment.
Able to independently perform job functions.
Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :
Verifies proper clinician order for procedures.
Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety.
Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate markers are utilized.
Reviews CT / radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment.
Assists other technologists in all modalities as needed.
Observes patient condition and evaluates situations requiring physician intervention.
Verifies patient identity using two unique identifiers prior to procedures.
Ensures patient's privacy and comfort are accommodated, maintaining dignity throughout the exam.
Demonstrates competence in applying appropriate procedures and techniques based on patient age.
Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to complete required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection.
Utilizes critical thinking skills and communicates effectively with patients and families.
Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders and understands preprocedural verification.
Prepares the patient for procedures and maintains competency with venipuncture.
Equipment :
Adjusts techniques to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality.
Reports malfunctioning equipment to ensure timely corrections.
Cleans and maintains equipment following infection control policies.
Education and Communication :
Clearly explains the purpose of exams to patients to reduce anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
Addresses patient questions and concerns prior to procedures, notifying the physician if necessary.
Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures.
Documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology.
Reads emails daily regarding assignments and completes mandatory education.
Quality Control :
Consistently produces acceptable images, as evidenced by feedback and quality audits.
Ensures equipment is operational and properly calibrated.
Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and manages other documentation as required.
Operations :
Restocks linens and supplies and maintains departmental cleanliness.
Transports and positions patients, helping them on and off procedure tables.
Handles patient charging activities on the service day.
Applies shielding and immobilization devices.
Assists colleagues as needed to ensure departmental efficiency.
Performs routine clerical duties as warranted to maintain service continuity.
Maintains an individual productivity rate commensurate with co-workers.
Operates all workstations within the CT department.
Maintains compliance with regulatory standards and takes call when necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with departmental policies and procedures.
