Overview :

Prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Performs and assists with nuclear medicine studies. Is responsible for patient safety protocols. Maintains all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements. Participates in CQI activities.

Job Descriptions : Responsibilities

Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceuticals and materials; calculates and administers doses under the direct supervision of a Radiologist.

Calibrates equipment.

Assesses patients understanding of exam and informed consent. Instructs and prepares patient for exams. Interacts professionally with patient / family.

Performs diagnostic exams on patients as prescribed by physician. Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patients condition during testing. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing exams.

Uses scanners or scintillation cameras for detection of radiation emitted to produce image of organ on photographic film.

Measures radioactivity using Geiger counters, scalers and scintillation detectors.

Follows radiation safety techniques and policies in the use and disposal of radioactive materials.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.

Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.

Takes call according to monthly schedule, after regular department hours.

Compiles and maintains quality assurance information.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Education : Graduation from approved school of Radiology Sciences with certification in nuclear medicine.

Licensure : If practicing in Arkansas, a Nuclear Medicine Technologist License is required.

Certification / Registration : NMTCB or ARRT(N) Registry or Registry eligible (Achieve registry within 2 months of eligibility)

Other : Basic computer knowledge. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Education : Bachelor of Science - Nuclear Medicine Technology

Preferred Experience : 1 yr experience

Preferred Other : Additional languages preferred.
