The internship is 40 weeks (September 2025 - June 2026), 25-30 hours per week . INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION :

Greater Louisville Inc. is seeking a writing-savvy, self-motivated graduate student to complete an internship in communications and marketing for the fall and spring semesters. The selected intern will report to the Senior Director of Communications and Public Relations and will support communications and public relations strategies for all GLI departments. The intern will be tasked with various projects to amplify GLI's voice in the community and create innovative and consistent messaging across channels. While the intern will mainly work on communications and marketing projects, there may also be opportunities to collaborate with the government affairs, economic development, talent and workforce, and diversity, equity and inclusion teams. This is hybrid position with the flexibility to work from home as scheduling permits.

ORGANIZATION :

Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) is the chamber of commerce and regional economic development organization representing five counties in Indiana and ten counties in Kentucky. Services provided by GLI can be defined in three main categories :

  • Chamber of Commerce : GLI is made up of approximately 1,600 investor businesses who contribute investment dollars and time for shared services such as corporate connections / introductions, ribbon cuttings, education, and corporate events.
  • Advocacy : GLI listens to its investors and their concerns with regard to legislation and advocates for those interests in Frankfort, KY, Indianapolis, IN, Louisville Metro, and Washington D.C.
  • Economic Development : GLI is instrumental in proactively recruiting new businesses to the area, helping existing businesses grow, incubating the entrepreneurial community and attracting, retaining and developing talent.

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES :

  • Explore a career path in communications, marketing, public relations, and public policy
  • Gain experience in writing and editing technical copy for broad audiences on a variety of topics
  • Gain experience with public relations tactics and build relationships with local media
  • Develop professional communication and marketing skills
  • Develop a deeper understanding of chamber functions including advocacy, economic development, talent, and economic inclusion
  • Gain experience in time management
  • Gain experience in teamwork and collaboration
  • INTERNSHIP ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Assist with writing press releases, newsletters, event scripts, articles, social media copy, and statements on GLI programming, initiatives, and accomplishments
  • Assist with copy editing press releases, newsletters, event scripts, articles and statements on priority GLI legislation and initiatives
  • Work across departments to gather and disseminate information for consistent messaging
  • Assist in pitching media on GLI initiatives and events
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for proactive media pitching
  • Assist in content creation for GLI and Live in Lou social media channels
  • Create and maintain media lists and all internal reports
  • Support and attend GLI events as needed
  • Contribute during departmental meetings
  • Assist with miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor(s)
  • INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS :

  • Working towards a Master's degree
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setting
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of legislative and government processes
  • Possess good judgment and ability to manage ambiguous or complex topics
  • Possess strong work ethic and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, quick deadlines and priorities
  • Confidence and willingness to learn on the job
  • EVALUATION :

    The purpose of this internship is to introduce you to GLI and help you develop professional work experience. You will be continually evaluated throughout the course of your internship, as any employee would be. A midpoint evaluation to solicit your feedback will take place, as well as an evaluation of the internship upon program completion. You are encouraged to submit your own ideas, insights and opinions on your tasks and performance throughout the program.
