This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position. This National Guard position is for an IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2181P01 and is part of the FL 125th FW, National Guard. Responsibilities As an IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK), GS-2210-09 / 11, you will administer the base Local Area Network (LAN). Implement new network operating systems hardware and software and develops base wide network operating procedures. Analyzes LAN utilization statistics through data collection and performance measures to ensure the smooth, reliable, and robust operation of LANs to include classified and unclassified networks. Coordinate LAN installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reviews, evaluates, and fine-tunes components such as virtual servers, hubs, switches, and routers to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity. Assist in the development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of network systems to include the LAN / WAN. Receives network, communications, and related operating systems from various sources such as design centers and commercial vendors. Maintain an inventory of all network hardware and software. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network and application server hardware, network operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators. Develop and maintains base wide procedures for networks, system operations, backups, and product assembly and installation. Implements network operating system and / or network application software, and maintains contact with software suppliers to ensure that current releases of software products are in use. Conduct testing of network systems to ensure current network software products are compatible with system configurations and to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards. Monitor operation of the LAN / WAN and ensures hardware and network operating software are functioning properly and that operation standards are met.

Category 1 : All permanent / indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency WITH dual FL National Guard military membership; Category 3 : All current military members of the Florida National Guard. First consideration will be given to Category 1. PCS : Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard. The current exclusive representative is The Association of Civilian Technicians, Chapter 86 and the President is Mr. Robert Morgan at rmorgan@ Military Grades : Enlisted : E4 thru E6 GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must have experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : GS-09 Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or the equivalent which provides knowledge and / or experience, education, or training receiving, maintaining, and issuing data storage media for computer operations. Experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing. Experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing. Experience in at least one programming language. Translating detailed logical steps developed by others into language codes that computers accept where this required understanding of procedures and limitations appropriate to use of a programming language. Experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow. Experience in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : GS-11 Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level or the equivalent which provides knowledge and / or experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost / benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. TEMPORARY PROMOTION- For Title 32 and / or Title 5 selectees only : This is an obligated position (incumbent is on a military tour). If a permanent employee in Title 32 and / or Title 5 excepted civil service accepts this position, he / she will retain their permanent status AND return to their previous Title 32 and / or Title 5 position once the incumbent returns from military duty. If the military tour member, who has reemployment rights to this position, does not exercise his / her reemployment rights within 5 years, the selected individual may remain in this position without further competition. INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT-For Current Title 5 selectees only : This is an obligated position (incumbent is on a military tour). If an on-board individual employed in Title 5 excepted civil service accepts this position, he / she will be converted to Title 32 and will receive an indefinite appointment (Tenure 3). If a Reduction-In-Force occurs and / or the military tour member exercises reemployment rights to this position, the indefinite appointee will have no reemployment rights to any other position and may be separated. If the military tour member, having reemployment rights to this position, does not exercise his / her rights within 5 years, this position may be converted to a permanent status without further competition. MULTIPLE LEVEL RECRUITMENT : This position is being advertised using multiple level recruitment to allow for consideration of applicants with the basic skills necessary to develop to the full journeyman level of the position. If a less than fully qualified applicant is selected, the incumbent may be trained and developed until proficiency is gained to full journeyman level. If less than fully qualified individual is selected for this position, the position has potential to Grade__11__. STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE : The purpose of this position is to provide on-the-job experience for the purpose of qualifying for the target grade level described in the position description. Work assignments are selected to provide training and experience in this occupation. The incumbent is required to obtain increased knowledge and skill in the duties of the position at the target grade level. Promotion to the full journeyman level position is not automatic with the completion of the time in grade requirements, but rather it is contingent upon the assignments and performance of full journeyman level duties on a regular and recurring basis. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position. GS-9 (or equivalent) master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree GS-11 (or equivalent) Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree Undergraduate or Graduate Education : Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
