About The Position
Regulatory Requirements : High School Diploma or equivalent.Strong experience with minimally invasive, general, ENT, orthopedics, vascular and podiatric specialties including video, orthopedic and all other needed equipment to do the above surgeries. 2 years operating room experience preferred. BLS Required Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred. Current state Surgical Technologist Licensure, within state of Colorado.Job summary Under direct supervision, assists surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Provides expert support, assistance and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Summary of essential job functions Coordinates configuration of equipment to provide ease of use. Places equipment and supplies in operating room and arranges instruments according to instructions. Checks instruments and equipment for sterility, cleanliness, and functionality prior to the start of the case Assist with set up and use of equipment during procedures. Assists with allocation of equipment for procedures on a daily basis. Assists team members to place and position patient on table Scrubs arms and hands and dons gown and gloves. Scrub procedures as primary or secondary staff Aids team to don gowns and gloves. Dons personal protective equipment when required. Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, and performs other tasks as directed by surgeon and circulating nurse during operation Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation per hospital policy Puts dressings on patient following surgery Actively participates in meeting patient safety goals in promoting quality and safe patient care Cleans operating room and assists in room turnover. Washes and sterilizes equipment Recommends to director guidelines for use of equipment, purchase of new / replacement equipment and additional parts and supplies Assembles / complies case carts with supplies, instruments and equipment in preparation for the procedure Performs other related duties. Minimum requirements Adheres to dress code; appearance is clean and neat. Completes annual educational requirements, both regulatory and organizational. Maintains regulatory requirements including all state, federal and accreditation regulations. Attends annual orientation and performs departmental in-services. Ensures patient confidentiality. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Strong communication skills. Work Environment : The job requires potential exposure to infectious waste and an assortment of chemicals and pharmaceuticals as well as foul odors. The noise level is moderate to occasionally loud, occasional interactions with belligerent and / or aggressive patients and significant others are possible. Exposure to environmental factors including heat, cold, precipitation such as snow and rain, and wind is possible. While performing the duties of this Job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Frequent exposure to inpatients and outpatients who may be experiencing a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions and infectious diseases. Physical Demands (STRENGTH HEAVY) : Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and / or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. 2. Physical Demands (MOVEMENT) : This position will require the full range of movements, and repetition of motion, to include kneeling, crouching, reaching and feeling. 3. Physical Demands (AUDITORY) : TALKING - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. HEARING - perceiving the nature of sounds. Used for those activities which require ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sounds. 4. Physical Demands (VISION) : ACCOMMODATION - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Use this factor when requiring near point work at varying distances. COLOR VISION - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
