Education and Community Outreach Coordinator
Job description : JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer develops and delivers education programs about human sexuality and reproductive health. Markets programs to teachers, community service providers, parents, and teens. Develops and maintains professional contacts within the education and service community to promote program opportunities. Develops and facilitates education sessions for teens, adults, and families. This role is essential for building strong community ties and ensuring effective communication between organizations and the public. Strategize and plan engagement activities to foster relationships with community members and stakeholders. Promote PPDEs education programs and assist targeted cohorts to access all PPDEs educational programs and services. Serve as the liaison between the organization and various constituents to enhance collaboration and support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Teaches evidence-based sex education programs to fidelity in-person and virtually, in schools and community settings.
2. Develops, markets, and facilitates accurate and engaging educational programming about human sexuality and reproductive health statewide to teens and adults.
3. Plans for education classes and workshops.
4. Collects, enters, analyzes, and reports data related to educational programming.
5. Provides technical assistance to teachers and community service providers.
6. Responds promptly to all requests for education programming.
7. Assists Education and External Affairs Department staff in developing, marketing, and facilitating high-quality professional training for teachers, community service providers and other professionals, including PPDE staff.
8. Collaborate in the community, cultivating strong relationships with providers and community organizations throughout Delaware.
9. Lead efforts to establish referral partnership, MOUs with local schools, shelters, faith-based organizations, community consortiums and hospitals, and clinics, while also working in conjunction with community-based organizations, and other entities that assist children and families.
10. Actively engage with the community on behalf of PPDE, participating in and organizing events, distributing informational materials, creating referral networks, and exploring innovative methods to enhance awareness and connect families with available resources.
11. Engage families and referral sources while building community awareness of the PREP, Camp MEE, LiFT Programs and its services
12. Develops and facilitates education sessions for teens, adults, and families.
13. Exhibits and models a positive approach and excellent customer service skills and promotes a spirit of teamwork and professionalism among all staff.
14. Abides by the mission of PPDE.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelors degree or equivalent education / work experience required in social work, public health, education, gender studies, family studies, human services or relevant field.
2. Previous experience providing education to teens or young adults required.
3. Commitment to providing medically accurate, non-judgmental, and inclusive sex education to teens and young adults.
4. Marketing, outreach, and recruitment experience preferred.
5. Human sexuality knowledge preferred.
6. Bilingual English / Spanish preferred.
Reasoning Ability :
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in various formats required. Must be highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented with the ability to set and meet deadlines. Must possess strong planning skills.
Language Skills :
Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, procedure manuals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening, and interpersonal relationship skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and interact comfortably with a diverse group of clients, staff and volunteers in a non-judgmental, professional, and sensitive manner. This includes strong demonstrated presentation and public speaking skills.
Mathematical Skills :
Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Computer Skills :
Excellent keyboarding skills with a high level of accuracy required. Proficiency in Internet usage and Microsoft Office essential, including but not limited to the following programs : Word, Excel, Access (or other similar database system), Publisher, and PowerPoint. Must possess capacity to learn software programs required for specific position and access electronic communications, including e-mail, Extranet and Internet.
Physical Demands :
All of the position functions listed within this position description involve to greater and lesser degrees the following physical demands : close vision; hearing / listening; clear speech; walking; lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds; stooping; kneeling; bending; sitting; and standing. The physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Work Environment
1. Works in a diverse environment, builds productive relationships, and effectively works independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
2. Performs tasks that involve exposure to cleaning solvents and other chemicals.
3. Works in an environment with usually moderate noise level.
4. Works in an environment where protestors may be present at work and related sites.
5. Works an irregular schedule, which could include some weekends, early mornings and evenings.
6. Works in a cost-effective and flexible manner, multi-tasks, and works effectively under pressure due to conflicting demands.
7. Performs agency duties at various sites, so a valid driver license or otherwise ability to provide own reliable transportation is required.
