Executive Underwriter / Senior Underwriter - Excess Casualty Major Accounts Construction And Energy
As an Executive Underwriter / Senior Underwriter - Excess Casualty Major Accounts Construction and Energy, you will be part of a dynamic team of underwriters responsible for the profitable growth and retention of our Construction and Energy Major Umbrella and Excess book of business. We are looking for a production underwriting champion that will partner with Agents and Brokers and be responsible for developing, growing, and maintaining a complex and profitable, book of accounts. Depending on experience, we will consider this role at the Senior Underwriter or Executive Underwriter level. You will be responsible to market, manage, underwrite, and appropriately evaluate acceptable risks within delegated authority levels to maximize profitability and meet business plans. Responsibilities
- Risk Selection : evaluates or assesses the business applying for insurance by qualifying accounts identifying, selecting and assessing risks determining the premium, policy terms and conditions obtaining approvals creating / presenting the proposal to the agent / broker and successfully negotiating deals.
- Agent / Broker Relationships : Demonstrates a high level of responsiveness and focus on supporting Key Agents and Brokers objectives through successful negotiations. Develops and maintains the relationship through responsive service, site visits, in person renewal meetings or enhanced knowledge of their customers businesses.
- Portfolio Management : Manages a large and complex book of business by analyzing the portfolio, identifying areas of opportunity for improved growth, profit and diversification, and executing marketing plans to increase market share with preferred brokers.
- Documenting the Deal : Documents files in a way that reflects a solid thought process and decision making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs and referrals.
- Leadership : Formally guides, mentors, and coaches underwriters in both technical and professional skills. Demonstrates multiple areas of expertise and provides regular updates to other underwriters.
- Continuous Improvement : Actively participates in continuous improvement by fully engaging in daily huddles, generating suggestions, following appropriate procedures and work principles, participating in problem solving activities, and using continuous improvement tools to support the work of the team.
- Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of insurance products / coverage, market segments and marketplace; insurance finance and actuarial concepts; loss control / risk engineering; marketing / selling techniques, regulatory environment and reinsurance; advanced - level knowledge of underwriting, pricing, risk selection and territory management.
- Ability to apply underwriting / appetite, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals and solve complex problems.
Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent typically requiredA minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and / or other related business experienceCPCU or professional insurance designation preferredProven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibilityDemonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and / or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposesDemonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholdersMust demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes / workflows to properly manage or administer those issuesProven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business
