Job Title : Payroll Specialist

Location : Los Angeles, CA

Compensation : $32 - $35 / Hour

Benefits : This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

About the Role :

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Analyst to join our team and ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large, multi-state employee base. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has hands-on expertise in full-cycle payroll operations. The Payroll Analyst will work closely with HR, Finance, and external partners to maintain compliance, support audits, and deliver excellent service to employees.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Process bi-weekly, full-cycle payroll for 500+ employees across multiple states using ADP Workforce Now (WFN) .
  • Prepare, review, and reconcile payroll journal entries for month-end close and financial reporting.
  • Manage garnishments, deductions, 403(b) contributions, PTO, and terminations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct payroll audits, reconcile payroll tax filings (W-2, 941), and respond to agency notices as needed.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve discrepancies, answer employee inquiries, and support process improvements.
  • Utilize Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs) to perform payroll reporting, variance analysis, and reconciliations.
  • Assist with payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing as required.

Qualifications :

  • 3+ years of hands-on, full-cycle payroll experience with 500+ employees.
  • Strong knowledge of ADP Workforce Now required.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing and 403(b) retirement plan administration.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
  • Familiarity with payroll audits, compliance, and reconciliations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage sensitive data with confidentiality.
  • Preferred Experience (Nice-to-Haves) :

  • Payroll system implementation or upgrade experience.
  • Previous experience in an education or nonprofit environment.
