About the Role : Our client is a leader in the building materials and millwork space, known for their commitment to customer service, innovation, and operational excellence. They are seeking a dynamic, results-driven Director of Commercial Millwork Sales to lead and grow their commercial millwork sales operation. This player / coach role requires a hands-on sales leader who can balance strategic direction with active field sales. You will personally engage key accounts while building and mentoring a team focused on expanding reach with architects, builders, developers, lumberyards, and specialty retailers.
The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the commercial construction sales cycle, established relationships in the architecture, engineering, and construction community, and the ability to bridge design intent with technical product solutions in the millwork and architectural woodwork space.
Key Responsibilities :
Sales Leadership :
- Develop and execute the go-to-market strategy for commercial millwork sales across multiple verticals.
- Hire, lead, and mentor a growing team of sales reps and account managers.
- Establish KPIs, territories, compensation plans, and training programs.
- Collaborate with marketing, estimating, and operations to align sales targets with capacity and profitability goals.
- Provide executive-level reporting on pipeline health, forecasts, and competitive intelligence.
- Shape product feedback loops from the field to improve positioning and offerings.
Direct Sales :
Personally manage and grow strategic accounts with architects, general contractors, developers, and multi-family builders.Call on lumberyards, dealers, and specialty retail stores to expand indirect sales channels.Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions.Identify and close high-margin opportunities, especially in early design or spec-in stages.Lead project pursuit efforts, RFP responses, and presentations to ownership and design teams.Qualifications :
7+ years of sales experience in commercial millwork, architectural woodwork, or building materials.3+ years in a sales leadership or team-building role with proven coaching success.Strong relationships with architects, builders, developers, and / or distributors in the commercial construction space.Proven ability to grow markets, open new accounts, and manage complex sales cycles.Understanding of millwork fabrication, custom projects, and project-based quoting.Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable with C-level and field-level stakeholders.Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and pipeline management.Bachelor's degree in Business, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field preferred.Preferred Skills :
Familiarity with Division 6 / 8 / 10 products, fire-rated openings, or door programs.Experience selling both to specifiers (architects / designers) and to channel partners (distributors).Knowledge of multi-family, hospitality, healthcare, or mixed-use construction.Comfortable with site visits, blueprint takeoffs, and construction documentation.Compensation & Benefits :
