When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us.Job Summary : Specimen Processing is an integral department of the laboratory. A Laboratory Assistant reports to the section supervisor. Primary job responsibilities include :

• Processes specimens (blood, urine, stool, etc.) in accordance with laboratory policy.
• Properly handles specimens in a timely manner while ensuring accuracy of data entry into the laboratory information system.
• Responsible for preparing specimens where testing is not performed at Hartford Hospital to reference laboratories.
• Handles add-on laboratory orders for specimens already collected.
• Sample archiving
• Works effectively with the customer to answer specimen or other laboratory related questions in a timely manner to ensure the best patient care. Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Math / Science concentration preferred.
• Must be able to read, speak and write the English language.
• Must have computer skills, word processing skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks, concentrate and pay attention to detail in a busy, fast paced environment.
