Job description

Remote## APL Group Underwriter IIIOklahoma City, OK, USA

  • Participates in development of services and strategies to improve profitability and retention of group products in employer groups in an assigned area or market through the development and execution of a business plan as defined by supervisor or executive management which results in profitable and controlled growth.
  • Participates in the preparation of proposal and renewal recommendations for group products along with other value-added initiatives designed to support company initiatives. This includes utilizing business intelligence tools and reports for the purpose of identifying and supporting "Sales and Broker Resource" needs, establishing business requirements, problem resolution, and / or functioning as department team member for communication of systems development and / or testing and user acceptance testing related to changes involving product proposals, rules engine and policy administration systems.
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency in risk selection. Consults with Group Underwriter IV or Supervisor of Group Underwriting on large cases and exception issues, demonstrates a good understanding of the underwriting principals, mechanics and pricing for all group product, demonstrates a good understanding and high level of proficiency with business analytics and business intelligence tools and provides technical support and / or training to Group Underwriter II, and other APL colleagues.Skills of the ideal candidate :
  • Five or more years group underwriting experience
  • Strong knowledge of risk principals associated with group insurance
  • Strong PC knowledge required, including experience with Microsoft Office applications, BI software, actuarial reports and underwriting tools
  • Strong knowledge of insurance contracts, industry and market trend and compliance issues
  • Strong knowledge of functional area processes
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of organizational procedures and goals
  • Demonstrates strong administrative competence through analyzing and adjusting underwriting procedures to gain maximum efficiency
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and to negotiate
  • Ability to work independently and address issues through own initiativeCompensation range : ($72,063.05 - $113,516.03 USD Annual / yr) plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary company bonus. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
