Descripción del trabajoConducts inpatient consults with all patients and families during their postpartum stay to obtain medical history, assess feeding goals, do a physical examination, and assess current knowledge and potential education gaps. Conducts inpatient consults with all NICU patients and families, provides lactation support throughout the infants stay. Communicates plan of care and all pertinent information to other members of the healthcare team to provide coordinated patient care. Treats each patient as an individual. Keeps accurate medical records and updates nursing care whenever conditions, needs, or goals of the patient change. Integrates multidisciplinary approach to maintain comfort, support human functions and responses, and maintain an environment conductive to safety and well-being. Implements measures to promote a safe environment. Assess the infants needs and develop feeding plans for infants with complex needs, not to ne limited to prematurity, low birth weight, oral facial anomalies, etc. Orients and educates nursing staff and providers in best practice for breastfeeding care and support. Provides parent education both 1 : 1 and in group settings. Demonstrates technical knowledge of equipment and troubleshoot as problems arise. Takes cultural, age-specific, gender, and developmental factors into consideration when teaching patients about procedures, illness, hospital experience, etc. Chooses an appropriate and meaningful communication style when interacting with others. Utilize appropriate teaching modalities such as interpreter line, visual aids, etc. Graduate of an accredited nursing program 1 year experience working with breastfeeding families in the inpatient or outpatient setting. Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing. Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) Writes, reads, comprehends, speaks fluent English Coordinates work and communicates with CLCs and IBCLCs on the team

Coordinates patient care and educational activities relative to lactation. The practice is evidence based and encompasses consultation to both patients and health professionals in the hospital and community. This includes both the inpatient setting and outpatient setting through Breastfeeding Support Group and outreach phone calls. Provides patients and families with the information, education, skills, and treatment essential to the successful attainment of their feeding goals. Identifies plans for the management of lactation problems, acts as a breastfeeding resource for medical and nursing staff, and promotes breastfeeding as the preferred feeding method for newborns.
