Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)'s Regulation & Certification Department is currently seeking a Vehicle Emission Regulatory Engineer for the Emission Certification & Regulation Team at our Superior Township, MI facility just east of Ann Arbor.
HATCI's Regulation & Certification Department helps support Hyundai and Kia vehicles to meet changing safety, environmental, and emissions standards at the federal, state, and local levels. Regulatory professionals research & analyze future regulatory trends to recommend internal action, guide the direction of company research, and help to develop a policy for public positions. They also address issues related to these standards and communicate with agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resource Board (CARB), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and U.S. Customs.
Job Description :
- Follow Federal and State regulatory emissions activities and provide related analysis, comments, and guidance to Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) affiliates.
- Monitor upcoming Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) research and regulatory initiatives through participation in industry and government meetings and committees, as well as through frequent contact with government representatives, other companies, and trade associations.
- Prepare corporate positions and written comments in response to regulatory actions by gathering and coordinating input from R&D and HMG-affiliated companies.
- Prepare reports on an ongoing basis addressing upcoming regulations and summaries of published regulatory actions with recommendations for action.
- Keep abreast of, and distribute, information on environmental trends, technologies, and upcoming requirements to related R&D staff through meetings, presentations, and other media on a regular basis.
- Provide guidance to R&D on the appropriate action in response to regulatory initiatives.
- Respond to government inquiries relating to future environmental regulatory requirements.
- Provide interpretations on recently published proposals or regulations.
- Serve as a corporate representative on the environment subcommittees of our industry trade association, Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AFAI).
- Prepare bi-weekly, quarterly, and yearly summaries of environmental activity.
- Create and present technical reports and perform additional functions as assigned.
- Coordinate with Canadian, or other market, counterparts as necessary.
- Traveling up to 30% of the time domestically and internationally is possible.
