As a Broadband Professional Engineer at Fibersmith, youll perform advanced engineering work related to broadband networksdeveloping plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure projects are complete, accurate, and aligned with industry best practices. Youll solve design challenges, conduct field investigations, create detailed design computations, and integrate various project elements. This role also involves direct client engagement at both management and staff levels, and the opportunity to present concepts and project plans to clients or at industry events.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Network Design : Utilize programs like 3GIS, ESRI, and AutoCAD to design broadband networks.
  • Feasibility & Cost Modeling : Conduct calculations and analyses to support feasibility studies, cost modeling, project management, and troubleshooting.
  • Contract Preparation & Administration : Develop detailed cost estimates, draft plans, and create specifications for contracts.
  • Client Interaction : Lead meetings with clients, conduct pre-bid and pre-construction sessions, and perform regular project reviews.
  • Splicing & Construction Oversight : Complete fiber optic splicing schematics and guide construction activities.
  • Project Management : Track project status, maintain accurate documentation, and provide regular updates in coordination calls.
  • Technical Support : Offer engineering and technical guidance to Project Managers and Senior Design Consultants.
  • Reporting & Analysis : Review survey reports, maps, and blueprints; produce or present findings on bid proposals, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Advisory Role : Provide expert advice on design, construction, and program modifications to leadership.
  • Administrative Tasks : Submit time sheets, expenses, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Additional Duties : Carry out other responsibilities as directed to support project and company objectives.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • 5+ Years of Experience in broadband engineering, with a focus on Fiber to the Home (FTTH)
  • Strong Fiber Optic Knowledge : Familiarity with GPON, EPON, and related technologies
  • Detail-Oriented : Accuracy, clarity, and thoroughness in all work
  • Adaptable & Organized : Able to multi-task, prioritize projects, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Team Player : Works collaboratively, considers team impact, and communicates effectively
  • Self-Directed : Proactive, takes initiative on weekly, monthly, and periodic tasks
  • Professional Presence : Maintains a polished demeanor when interacting with clients, contractors, and vendors
  • Valid Drivers License & Clean Record : Willing to travel to job sites as assigned
