Join Our Team as the Service Chief of Geriatrics & Palliative Care!

Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for improving the lives of our veterans? The Portland VA Medical Center is seeking a Service Chief of Geriatrics & Palliative Care to lead our dedicated team within the Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care Division. This is your opportunity to make a significant impact in a tertiary care and teaching environment!

About the Role

As the Service Chief, you will oversee clinical, administrative, educational, and research activities while providing direct patient care. You will also supervise trainees and collaborate with academic affiliates to advance our geriatrics and palliative care services.

Your Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, you will :

  • Lead and Manage : Oversee all clinical, teaching, research, and administrative activities of the Geriatrics & Palliative Care Section.
  • Design and Implement : Develop models of care for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Optimize Operations : Support productivity, workload capture, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate : Work with stakeholders to promote education and research.
  • Supervise Staff : Manage performance evaluations and recruitment of clinicians.
  • Provide Patient Care : Conduct histories, physical exams, and develop treatment plans.
  • Engage in Research : Teach and supervise trainees while participating in approved research projects.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have :

  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, plus Geriatrics or Hospice / Palliative Care.
  • A minimum of five years of administrative and leadership experience in a tertiary care environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in education and scholarship, with credentials for academic appointment at Oregon Health & Science University being highly desirable.
  • Working Conditions

    This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with the expectation of evening and weekend availability as part of a 24 / 7 physician team.
