Start dates are not flexible. There is a 100-mile radius rule. Epic EMR proficiency is required for all staff. There are no 48-hour guarantees. No blocked scheduling requests will be accepted. Staff are limited to a maximum of 5 days of requests for time off. Patients will typically have nurse-patient ratios of 1 : 1 or 1 : 2, and if there are no vents / drips, the ratio may be 1 : 3. The unit has a total of 42 beds. Required certifications include Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and NIH Stroke Scale. Common diagnoses and types of patients include cardiac cases such as open heart surgery, balloon procedures, and those requiring impella management. Titration of drips is required. Common titratable and set rate drips include vasopressors such as epinephrine and levophed, inotropes like dopamine and dobutamine, and various sedatives including ketamine and propofol. Analgesics and anticoagulants are also common in this setting. There is no designated charge nurse on shifts. Patient care technicians are available and typically have ratios of 1 : 10. The unit has intensivist coverage 24 hours a day. Respiratory therapists are present around the clock to assist with ventilator settings and intubation. Staff will provide bedside assistance with tracheostomy procedures. Centralized monitoring of telemetry is available. Shifts require punctuality, with a grace period for clocking in and out. Lunch must be clocked out for. Staff may self-schedule, with four requested days off allowed in a four-week period. Weekend shifts require working four weekends in a four-week period. Holiday requirements include working two major holidays, with specific exceptions for Christmas. Floating to other units is required, with a reduced patient load when floating. Staff uniform color is navy blue. Cancellation policy allows for client cancellations equivalent to weekly guaranteed hours for assignments. Charting is conducted using the Epic system. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required for this position. The trauma level at this facility is Level 2. The care setting is acute nursing. Shifts will be scheduled from 1845 to 0715.
