American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Woodland, California.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a current CA license and advanced certifications to work night shifts in an acute care setting with floating requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an 8-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within an acute care hospital
  • Primary patient population includes medical ICU cases
  • Patient ratios are typically 1 : 1-2
  • Uses Cerner EMR; prior Cerner experience preferred but not required
  • Shift schedule is 12-hour nights with every other weekend required
  • Frequent floating required between ICU, ER, and Med / Surg units, as well as to sister facilities in the area
  • Bedside report during shift change is expected
  • ICU is adjacent to PACU and features a horseshoe layout
  • Must be able to manage ventilators and interpret EKG strips
  • Floors have charge nurses and nurse aides as census and staffing dictate
  • Care for critically ill medical ICU patients including telemetry and vent management
  • Expected to float to ER and Med / Surg units, as well as to area sister facilities as required
  • ICU staff include a hospitalist or intensivist in-house, and there is 24 / 7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
  • All staff, including travelers, rotate holiday coverage with core staff
  • Orientation includes 1-2 days on the unit with a preceptor
  • Bedside report is required at shift change
  • Scrub color is navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black, and scrub jackets must be navy
  • Sterile technique skills for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes will be tested on the first day of orientation
  • Failure on required clinical tests results in disqualification for current and future positions for a specified period
  • Self-scheduling is used, with final approval by management and no guarantee of block scheduling

    • Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ICU RN experience is required
  • Certifications required : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS (all through AHA)
  • Ability to read and interpret EKG strips is required
  • Two recent supervisor or charge nurse references required, one from the last 12 months and one from the last 3 years
  • Must provide a valid driver’s license for consideration
  • Completion of a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with a maximum of two attempts allowed; prior passing result within 12 months accepted
  • Cannot have been directly employed by any affiliated systems (CommonSpirit, CHI, Dignity) within the past year
