Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Telemetry position caring for adult and geriatric populations at an acute care facility, requiring a WV or compact RN license and prior travel nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 32-bed Med / Surg Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient caseload includes surgical, orthopedic, urology, and medical cases with a primary focus on adult and geriatric populations
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 6
  • Care involves titration of drips, especially Heparin per protocol, with preference for candidates having cardiac drip experience
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is provided 24 / 7, with charge RN review of telemetry strips
  • Use of Epic EMR system is required
  • Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7 : 00 am – 7 : 00 pm, including every other weekend and rotating holidays
  • Floating to other Med / Surg units or to patients boarded in the Emergency Department is required based on unit needs
  • RNs may be asked to assume the Charge Nurse role and will be cross-trained if interested
  • Unit is supported by nurse aides at a 1 : 10 ratio and has 24 / 7 house supervisor coverage
  • Must wear navy solid color scrubs with no embroidery or patterns; closed-toe shoes required
  • Comprehensive orientation includes hospital, nursing, and computer training, plus two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor
  • Holiday and weekend coverage is determined via rotation with core staff, with consideration of prior year's assignments
  • No local travelers accepted; candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates with previous WVU Medicine employment must have a 2-year break before being considered

    • Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 1 year of Med / Surg Telemetry nursing experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Experience with post-operative and medical patients including care of hips, shoulders, and knees
  • Ability to titrate drips as per hospital and unit protocols
  • Experience using Epic EMR preferred
