Job Duties :
A $3,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- 500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- 1,000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- 1,500 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire candidates who has three (3) or more years in a residential setting and direct shift leader experience for the Behavior Specialist positions at the West Neck Intermediate Care Facility (ICF).

1 : 30 PM - 9 : 30 PM Tues-Sat1 : 30 PM - 9 : 30 PM Sun-Thurs9 PM - 7 AM Sun-WedDuties :
Function primarily as a Shift Leader to ensure that all aspects of 12 clients’ plans are executed in a timely and consistent manner.Perform medication passes when needed; attend assigned medical appointments / outings.Communicate with the direct care team(s), nursing staff, Qualified Developmental Disability Professionals (QDDPs), Recreation, day program staff, families / Authorized Representatives (ARs), and the general public, including medical professionals.Be familiar with and able to implement IPPs for 12 clients.As Shift Leader, assess all client needs, and activities and provides guidance to other direct care staff.Maintain good knowledge of the medication process, including looking behind, checking the MAR, etc.Identify and defuse crisis situations and contact necessary program staff for reporting purposes.Maintain general Human Rights knowledge and identify reportable situations and to whom.Maintain and complete fund ledger for primary client 1x per week.Complete medical / dental consults after appointments.Complete documentation for assigned responsibilities and when required assess the accuracy of collected data and communicate the need for revisions in programming.Communicate in an effective, respectful, professional fashion, using methods easily understood by the client involved.Work with the QDDP to identify strengths and needs and develop training objectives for client(s).Participate in the hiring and mentoring of new staff under the direction of the immediate supervisor.The City offers a generous benefits package such as health, dental and life insurance, retirement and savings plans. Minimum Requirements :
MINIMUMS : Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and / or experience equivalent to four (4) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities such as, sociology, psychology, or special education. Required to have, or obtain, a current and valid drivers license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. May be required to qualify as Qualified Mental Health Professional or related designation as required by program.
