Reserve Deputy

Join our team of Reserve Deputies - selfless community members who volunteer their time to the safety and benefit of San Juan County citizens. Reserve Deputies provide crucial assistance to our full-time Deputies on patrol, at community events, critical incidents, crime scenes, and more. Extensive training and all equipment is provided.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
We want you to know about the San Juan County Sheriff's Office policy concerning personal appearance. This policy requires that all uniformed personnel present a professional appearance when representing the Sheriff's Office. Uniformed and non-uniformed personnel may, while on-duty, display non-prohibited tattoos on their arms. Aside from permanent ink make-up and / or a wedding band style tattoo on the associated finger, all tattoos on the neck, face, scalp, or below the wrist are prohibited from being visible while on-duty. Intentional body mutilation which is visible is prohibited. To ensure compliance with Sheriff's Office policy on Uniform and Appearance, photographs may be taken of a deputy sheriff candidate's tattoo(s) after a conditional offer of employment has been accepted. These photographs will be forwarded to the Sheriff for review and approval and are considered part of the background file. Photographs will only be taken of tattoos which are visible when the candidate is wearing a short sleeve shirt and pants. Photographs will never be taken of any unclothed part of the body other than the lower arms, neck, scalp, and face.

The Reserve Academy lasts for approximately 6 months. Classes are usually held every week on Wednesday night & every other weekend on Saturday. It requires a great deal of dedication. Are you prepared to make the sacrifices needed to complete the training?
After completing the Reserve Academy, the minimum requirement is ten hours on-duty and two hours of training per month. Are you able to meet this requirement?
