Experience in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and circulating experience required.
Triage experience strongly preferred.
Description :
Unit has 10 Labor and Delivery beds.
There are 2 operating rooms on the unit for C-sections.
Labor and Delivery RNs will circulate.
There are 4 Triage beds available.
The unit has 10 Postpartum beds.
The average number of births per month is about 120.
Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN standards.
Primarily 1 : 1 in Labor and Delivery and 1 : 6 couple care in Postpartum.
RNs are required to titrate drips.
Common titratable drips include Pitocin per protocol and magnesium.
Insulin is rarely used.
There is a Charge Nurse, Resource RN, and House Supervisor on each shift.
The Charge RN and Resource RN do not have patient assignments.
CNA support is provided for the floor on most days and nights.
There is a unit clerk available 24 / 7.
An OB hospitalist is present 24 / 7.
Midwives are always on call.
A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is on site 24 / 7.
A Neonatologist is available on call within 15 minutes.
CRNAs provide anesthesia services 24 / 7.
The unit uses GE Connect for electronic fetal monitoring.
Shifts are 12 hours with a schedule of 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM.
Staff cannot work more than five consecutive shifts per hospital policy.
Weekend and holiday requirements are based on unit needs.
Travelers are required to float to like units within the valley.
Floating is typically within approximately 20 minutes of each other, primarily via interstate driving.
Notice is given prior to shifts when floating is expected.
Blue scrubs are provided on the unit.
There are typically 4-6 shifts of unit-specific orientation for travelers.
The charting system used is Epic Systems Corporation - EpicCare Inpatient - EMR.
