Deputy Director of Economic Equity Initiatives

The Deputy Director of Economic Equity Initiatives supports the Director of Programs in leading initiatives that promote fairness, opportunity, and upward mobility in underserved communities. This role oversees programs such as small business development, workforce development, and financial literacy, while managing operations at multiple community centers. The Deputy Director provides strategic leadership, fosters cross-divisional collaboration, and builds strong partnerships with businesses, workforce agencies, and community stakeholders to advance equitable economic outcomes.

Essential duties and responsibilities include :

  • Program Development and Implementation : Collaborate with the Director of Programs to design economic equity initiatives that address community-specific needs and economic disparities. Oversee the rollout of programs, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulations and best practices. Monitor program activities and adjust strategies as necessary to meet evolving community economic equity needs. Contribute to the strategic planning process, aligning economic equity initiatives with the organization's vision, mission, and long-term goals. Monitor and analyze economic opportunity and disparity trends to inform strategic decision-making and program adjustments.
  • Evaluation and Reporting : Under the direction of the Programs Director, collaborate with the Evaluation and Reporting Teams to evaluate economic equity programs through quantitative and qualitative measures to assess effectiveness and impact on target populations. Help to prepare and present reports to stakeholders, including funding agencies and community partners, highlighting program achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Community Engagement : Foster relationships with community stakeholders, including local organizations, businesses, workforce development agencies, and governmental agencies, to promote collaboration and resource sharing. Engage with community members to better understand their economic disparity needs and gather input for program development.
  • Operational Oversight : Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of various community centers and programs for all age groups, as needed. Collaborate with the Programs Leadership Team to ensure facilities are maintained to high safety and operational standards, providing a welcoming environment for all users.
  • Leadership and Team Development : Provide guidance and supervision to program staff, ensuring they receive ongoing training and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusivity, and accountability within the Economic Equity initiatives team.
  • Budget Management : Assist in developing and managing budgets for economic equity initiatives, ensuring effective allocation of resources and financial sustainability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Social Work, Education, Public Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in a management or supervisory role.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Administration and Management Deep understanding of strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, and operational oversight. Economic & Workforce Development Knowledge of small business development, workforce programs, and economic equity strategies. Budgeting & Financial Management Principles and practices for managing program budgets and financial sustainability. Strategic Thinking & Analytical Skills Ability to assess complex economic and community issues and design actionable solutions. Leadership & Team Development Building, guiding, and motivating diverse teams toward shared goals. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management Fostering long-term, collaborative relationships with community partners, agencies, and businesses. Fluency of Ideas Generating multiple, viable approaches to community and economic challenges. Negotiation & Conflict Resolution Bringing stakeholders together and finding common ground. Independent Problem-Solving Making decisions with minimal supervision while considering organizational goals.
  • Preferences :

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Seven (7) years in a management or supervisory role in economic development, workforce development, or community program administration (preferred).
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal funding regulations related to economic equity initiatives (preferred).
  • Certification in Economic Development (CEcD), Project Management (PMP), or Nonprofit Management (CNP) (preferred).
  • Position Type and Typical Hours of Work : Full-time | Regular. Work is performed in both office and community centers. Frequent interaction with community leaders, residents, business owners, and agency partners. Occasional evening and weekend work for community meetings, events, and public forums. Fast-paced, collaborative environment requiring adaptability to shifting priorities. Ability to travel locally between program sites and community events. Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds (event or outreach supplies). Comfort with public speaking and facilitating group discussions.
