We are looking for an experienced and caring School Counselor to join our staff. You will assist our students in navigating through difficult academic or social situations. Academic dilemmas may include determining which courses to take, how to prepare college applications, and understanding college requirements. Students may also need support with personal issues that are affecting them at school or at home. You will provide individual counseling as well as work in group sessions when necessary.
School Counselor Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate student needs through assessments and interviews
- Identify areas for improvement i.e. behavioral issues, academic performance problems, and attendance non-compliance
- Work with students to develop skills of time management, organization, and overall study habits
- Help students understand and overcome social and / or behavioral problems
- Assist students in the development of career goals and corresponding academic achievement plans
- Counsel individuals or groups as needed
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents for student success
- Educate school faculty, parents, and neighborhood on topics such as bullying, drug use, and college prep as needed
- Report signs of neglect or abuse to the superintendent and / or outside legal resources
School Counselor Requirements and Qualifications
Master's degree in school counseling, education, or a related fieldValid state certification or license2+ years of school counseling experience preferredMust pass a background checkExcellent communication skillsMust be compassionate and patientBilingual or multilingual a plus
